How incredibly fun! Dairy Queen for an engagement shoot? Yes, please! And also, I will take an ice cream cone with that! (Okay, so I didn’t have an ice cream cone, but they did).
I met Martin and Sarah a few months ago, and I am so happy I did. They are THE MOST FUN and the most positive people I have ever met. Their drive to keep happiness and joy in their lives is a true inspiration. We all fall off the “living in the moment” bus from time to time, but these two truly live it… every.single.moment. Their love story is beautiful and full of laughter. Because you know what? Life is just too dang short.
And the fun continued and continued and continued. Who says you can’t have fun and be silly on your engagement shoot. Dairy Queen for an engagement shoot? Absolutely!
With a Side of Spooky – An Engagement Shoot
Then, we moved on to Menninger’s Foundation. It wasn’t my first-time capturing images on the beautiful landscape near the old Clock tower. The Menninger’s complex was built in 1920’s and has been a prominent force in the landscape of Topeka for decades. The three of us parked our vehicles and walked in. It was a quiet walk, nothing to hear but us talking and leaves rustling. We talked about the decrepit building, with it’s boarded up and broken windows. Some of the windows are broken and you can see inside. If felt like you were going to look up at any moment to an open window with a curtain blowing in the wind and watch a subject flitter away, like in a horror movie. But at the same time, with our creep factor high, we still had an absolute blast!
We went about our business, capturing the beauty in these two wonderful humans. Except, it was hard to keep them serious. They just have so much fun together!
And then we saw it…. A baby carrier off in the distance. The creep factor skyrocketed. Eventually, we approached this stroller and verified it was the outline or metal pieces of a baby stroller.
Our conversations that beautiful evening included horror movies, ghosts, and paranormal activity.
But no creep factor, no ghost, no person flittering away in those windows… nothing could come between the love these two have for each other. It is beautiful and raw. Their love is fun and full of joy. It is true and genuine. You can see it in their eyes, in the smile in their hearts and in the beauty in their souls. You can see it in every image.
